What is E-Waste

Have you ever thought of where your old electronic device is going?

I Know you are probably trying to think about the question, but let me tell you about E-Waste. E-waste stands for electronic waste, which describes electric appliances that can't be use anymore, such as computers, refrigerators, televisions, ovens, air conditioners, toasters, or any other electronic devices.

What is the problem with E-waste in Ghana?

Back in the 1990s, Ghana use to face fewer problems with waste product, such as woods, plastic, or even hazardous chemicals. Because of the lack of waste management they have, they are now facing a big waste problem which have led to illnesses (cholera, intestinal worms, and typhoid). Most importantly, E-Waste is one of the easiest ways of surviving in Ghana since 1991 by people working hard to remove useful materials from old electronics devices to sell it.

Why should you care about the problem with E-waste in Ghana?

E-Waste tends to be one of the main environmental issues Ghana is facing  “More than 500 goods of container containing electronic device are being shipped to Ghana every month” ( Ottaviani Jacopo). They recycle E-waste products to find useful materials like copper and aluminum to sell or ship it back to developed countries for little money to help feed their families. E-waste is causing harm to the people health and the environment in Ghana.
